Be Unique;Believe, Achieve, Succeed Together

Year 1 Miss Pippin and Miss Wright

Welcome to Miss Pippin and Miss Wright's class. We are a Year 1 class. Throughout the morning we learn Phonics, English and Maths. In English we are using these texts: Jack and the Beanstalk, The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, and Meerkat Mail. We will also be reading and writing some poetry. Through these stories and poems we will be developing comprehension, inference and prediction skills. We will also be writing nonfiction. We are continuing to work on letter formation and writing in simple sentences. In Maths we are investigating counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, problem solving including the four operations, time, weights and fractions.

PE

We have P.E. on Tuesdays, so please bring in your PE kit at the beginning of each week or leave it at school. We will start practicing for Sport's Day. Sometimes PE is on different days if the hall is in use for a special event. Children need to wear shorts, T-shirt and PE shoes. Please take out earrings before the lesson or have plasters to protect your ears.

Topics

Our summer term topics are Materials, Aniamls including Humans, and Plants in Science. We will find out about Grace Darling in History and Our School and local area in Geography. We will also be learning about Christain Churches and Islam In RE. Please look at our curriculum map on the school website for information on other curriculum subjects.

Reading Books

Children are asked to bring reading books into school every day so children have the opportunity to read and change their books.

Library:

We welcome parents to come in and share the library experience with children on Wednesday's at 3pm. If you can’t make it then children have the opportunity to change their library book later in the week. Previous library books must be returned before children can take out a new book.
