Be Unique;Believe, Achieve, Succeed Together
Communication and Language is separated into 3 different sections:
Listening and attention, understanding and speaking.
Helicopter Stories.
Once a week, we participate in a Helicopter Story lesson.
The children sit around the stage marked on the carpet and we imagine that we are at the theatre!
Children are encouraged to listen carefully to the stories being told and actors are chosen to act out the story to their friends if they wish. The other children act as the audience and are brilliant at listening to their friends perform on the stage.
We then give the opportunity for all children to tell us their own stories which we perform together later in the day.
Sharing Stories!
Everyday, stories are shared with children to help improve their communication and language skills. The children are given a focus text for the week and this is used as a stimulus for their learning. We talk about the story and the children share their thoughts and opinions.
At 3.00pm, we have Dear Time.
This is when we stop what we are doing and share a story together on the carpet before home time.
This quality time is a lovely way to end the school day and allows for the children to apply their listening and understanding skills.
