Welcome!

Welcome to class 9. In year 5 we will be working very hard throughout the year to consolidate all of our previous learning, push ourselves to reach our goals and targets and to prepare ourselves for an important year next year!  Each morning we will start with maths based activities such as times tables practice, problem solving and group maths followed by English and Maths lessons. Afternoons will begin with Reading Plus followed by topic lessons.

PE

Our PE day is Thursday. Remember to bring in your PE kit at the beginning of each week and it must be taken home weekly to be washed. All earrings need to be covered or taken out for PE lessons.

Topics

Our spring term topics are:

  • History: Ancient Mayans
  • Science: Animals including humans
  • RE: Religious celebrations across the world
  • Geography: Kenya
  • ART: Mindful art
  • Music: Charanga/Summer Spectacular
  • PSHE: One Life
  • French: Les Sports
  • PE: Dance

Homework

Homework is given out on Thursdays and usually consists of a mymaths task or times tables rockstars and weekly spellings. It must be returned no later than the following Tuesday. On occasion, children may also bring any unfinished work home to complete.

Reading

Children are asked to bring reading books into school every day. Children who bring in reading books everyday will have more opportunities to read in school and change their books. We also ask that as parents, you encourage daily reading at home with your children. Lunchtime clubs and weekly helpers will also be organised to provide extra reading opportunities and to encourage a positive attitude towards reading
