Be Unique;Believe, Achieve, Succeed Together
Welcome to our Year 1 class page. Miss King is our class teacher and we have lots of other wonderful staff supporting our learning.
Following careful transition from Reception class, children experience a range of learning opportunities in Year 1 and study the full National curriculum. Our day will include a Sounds-Write phonic session, a Maths lesson and an English lesson. These will gradually be more formal across the Autumn Term. In the afternoons, we will cover our topic work through small guide groups and continuous provision.
Year 1 children will complete a Phonics Screening in June 2023. This is a government standardised assessment completed individually with the class teacher. We will be working very hard to decode real and 'alien' words in preparation.
Tuesday 6th September - Term starts

Monday 24th - Friday 28th October - Half Term

It is extremely important that children bring their reading books to school daily. This will give more opportunities to read and change their books. We will be recording our reading through an app for use at school and home (more details to follow). Reading at home makes a significant difference to children's progress. Reading for five minutes, several times a week, is strongly recommended. Ending the day with a bed-time story is a great opportunity for parents and carers to enrich their children's vocabulary and share a joyful experience together.
Please bring PE Kits in on Monday. They will be sent home at the end of the week.
Earrings must be removed or covered on PE days (Wednesdays).
Check this space regularly to see what we are learning.
