Physical Development is separated into 2 parts: Moving and Handling and Health and Self-care.
Moving and Handling:
Part of physical development in Reception focuses on children's ability to use their gross and fine motor skills effectively to complete everyday tasks. The children will participate in PE lessons where we learn how to move carefully and sensibly in a variety of ways. We will spend lots of time focusing on children's larger muscle movements before encouraging them to make marks and write.
The children have access to different daily funky finger activities which help improve their hand-eye co-ordination and their fine motor skills.
Health and Self-care:
Health and Self Care is another important aspect of a child's physical development. It is important that children learn how to make healthy choices and start to become more independent when dressing and undressing themselves. We encourage all children to put on their coats and shoes independently and have a try at fastening the velcro or zips themselves. We also encourage children to get ready for PE with minimal support as this increase their independence and improves their coordination skills.
