Welcome!

Welcome back to class 8!

What a strange time we have had recently! The world is a different place than a few months ago, and at school we know that you may have some worries and anxieties about returning full time. But don't worry! We will do our very best to make the transition as simple and smooth as possible! We are all in this together and we need to lean on and support one another.

In class 8, we will be working hard throughout the year to consolidate all of our previous learning, push ourselves to reach our goals and have lots of fun learning new things!  Each morning we will start with the register and 'Active in 5', this will be followed by Reading Plus. Our first lesson will usually be maths followed by times tables and English after break time. Afternoons will begin with handwriting practice then topic lessons.

Our days will be jam-packed but full of opportunities for learning, reflecting and developing our lovely squishy brains!

For PE sessions, remember your full PE kits (plain white t-shirt, plain/dark shorts/leggings/pants and trainers or plimsolls). These kits must be taken home regularly to be washed and earrings and watches must be removed.

As it is getting warmer and sunnier, we will be spending more time outside. We recommend that children make sure they have sunscreen on before coming to school and bring a hat with them for break times.

If you find yourself unable to come to school due to sickness or isolation, click on the link below that will take you to our home learning page where you can find a timetable of activities to follow along with. Work will also be posted in our Google Classroom

Homework

Homework is set on Wednesdays and usually consists of a mymaths task or times tables rockstars (to be completed online) and weekly spellings (to be completed at home then a picture uploaded to the Google classroom). It must be returned no later than the following Tuesday. On occasion, children may also bring any unfinished work home to complete.

Reading

Children are asked to bring their home reading books into school on a Friday. These will be quarantined in the classroom over the weekend. On the following Monday, children will change their books and take a new one home for the week. We ask that as parents, you encourage daily reading at home with your children. Reading Champions, shared reading and 1:1 reading provide extra opportunities to encourage a positive attitude towards reading and to support progress.
