Welcome to Year 5

Welcome back to Hadrian and welcome to Year 5! We know that this has been a very strange year and that school has been very different for you all. I hope that you are all looking forward to returning to school - learning lots of new things and being able to spend time with your classmates again. We want you to know that we have everything under control and we can't wait to see you and welcome you all back.  We have missed you so much!

Miss Dickson will be setting up her Google Classroom soon, so please keep an eye on your emails. You may also email her if you have any worries or concerns about returning to school.

Tuesday 8th September - Autumn Term Begins

Things to remember

  • Please remember to check you have the correct uniform, if you are unsure then you can find the information on our website.
  • Please bring in your PE kit every Monday and this can be taken home to be washed the day we have PE.
  • You can not bring in any equipment to school - we will provide you with all of the stationary you will need and a water bottle. You will not be allowed to bring any other items from home (such as pencil cases, etc).
  • You can email Miss Dickson from your Google accounts if you have any questions or concerns.

Homework

Maths homework will be set every Monday on MyMaths and will be due in the following Thursday. If you do not have access to the internet or a device such as an iPad or laptop please let Miss Dickson know and she will be happy to help. Similarly, if you are struggling with a piece of homework please tell Miss Dickson know and she will look through it with you - please don't worry.

English homework will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the following Monday. You will be given a homework book but the majority of your homework will be set online on our Google Classroom. Please ensure that your homework is handed in on time. You will also be given some spellings to learn each week.

Reading

Reading is a very important skill and helps us with many areas of our learning. Therefore, it is very important that you make reading a priority and have your reading book in school every day. You should take your reading book home with you so that you can read with someone at home at least once a week. Your reading book should be returned to the classroom each morning and taken home again each evening. You should also access Reading Plus at home.

I know you may be feeling nervous about returning to school, in a new year group and with a new teacher but you will settle in very quickly.  We will have a lot of catching up to do but it will be lots of fun - and we can do it!

I am very much looking forward to meeting you all very soon!

Miss Dickson
