Welcome to class 4

During the summer term class 4's morning will start with a phonics session. This will be followed with English. After assembly and break there will be a maths lesson. Mrs Giles is our classroom assistant. In the afternoon there will be coverage of foundation subjects and story. There is an emphasis on basic skills, to enable pupil's greater access to the whole curriculum  and the world beyond. . PE will usually be on a Thursday so please remove your child's earrings or send in plasters. PE days can change if the hall is in use so PE kits are to be left in school. Please encourage your child to read every night and to return their book back to school everyday.

Our class assembly will be a celebration of the Queen's 90th Birthday.

In English we are working on:

• Letter formation and starting to use entry strokes aswell as the correct sizing of letters.
• Writing in sentences to form short narratives.
• Key Stories- Orion and the Dark and The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.
• Story telling and changing stories. (Rumplestiltskin).
• Factual writing.
• Recounts.
• Drama and Role play.
• SPAG -using capital letters for the personal pronoun I , names of people , places and the days of the week. Prefixes and suffixes.
• Phonics - spellings linked to phonics as well as high frequency words and common exception words (tricky words).

In Maths we are working on:

• Number and place value
• Problem solving
• Time- days, months/seasons.
• Mental addition , subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Shape properties/position and direction.
• Measures- weight, capacity and length.
• Fractions.

We will be adding photographs throughout the school year of class 4 working hard!

In RE our focus is: What does it mean to belong to Christianity and places of worship.

In Computing our focus is Computer Programming.

In Science our focus is  Animals including humans and plants.

In History our focus is The Seaside. 

In Geography our focus is hot and cold countries around the world and the seaside..

In Art our focus is Sculpture.

In Technology our focus is  Homes.

In Music our focus is exploring duration.

In PSHE our focus is Relationships and Changes.

In French our focus is pencil case items and a story in French.
