Physical Development

Monkey Movements with South Shields FC Foundation

Moving and Handling:

Part of physical development in Reception focuses on children's ability to use their gross and fine motor skills effectively to complete everyday tasks. The children in Class 2 thoroughly enjoy their PE lessons where we are learning how to move carefully and sensibly in different ways.  We spend lots of time focusing on children's larger muscle movements before encouraging them to make marks and write.

The children have access to different funky finger activities which help improve their hand-eye co-ordination and their fine motor skills.

So far the children have been learning how to roll, jump and move in different ways. They have also taken part in 'Monkey Movements' with South Shields Football Club and some children have even participated in the EYFS sporting festival.

Health and Self Care:

Health and Self Care is another important aspect of a child's physical development. It is important that children learn how to make healthy choices and start to become more independent when dressing and undressing themselves. We encourage all children to put on their coats on independently and have a try fastening the velcro or zips themselves. We also encourage children to get ready for PE with minimal support as this increase their independence and improves their coordination skills.
