Persuasive letter writing.

Class 6 started this topic by looking at some exemplar texts. They found and highlighted the features of letter writing and persuasive language. We then did some research about the features of South Shields. The children were asked to look at 3 features in detail and decide why these features might be appealing to visitors. Next they created a plan for their persuasive letter (persuading visitors to spend their holidays in South Shields). Finally they wrote their own persuasive letter.

Take a look at some examples of our fantastic letters.

Look at our amazing one word calligrams.

The children chose an animal and wrote lots of adjectives to describe it. They used these words to create some word art calligrams using WordArt.com

This week we concentrated on creating a calligrams about bubbles. Firstly we blew some bubbles to look carefully at the shape, colours and movement. Then the children wrote lots of amazing adjectives. Next, Class 6 used some of these words to create some original similes.

Following a structure Class 6 produced the most wonderful bubble calligrams.

Non-chronological reports.

Setting description.

The children watched ‘Once in a Lifetime’. They were asked to imagine that they were riding on the back of one of the flying turtles. Where would the turtle take them? The children used their imaginations to create an illustration of their new land.

The children then created a word bank of words and phrases to describe their new land. They were encouraged to use thesauruses to expand their vocabulary. Using their word bank and illustration they created a setting description.
