How and why do Jews celebrate Hanukkah?

In RE, Class 3 have been learning about Judaism and the special celebration of Hanukkah. We have been finding out about some of the traditions and customs that are part of Hanukkah and exploring why this celebration is important to Jewish people.

The children will be learning about the menorah, the lighting of candles and some of the special foods, games and traditions associated with Hanukkah. We have also been talking about the importance of family, community and coming together to celebrate.

Our RE lessons give the children a wonderful opportunity to share their own experiences, beliefs and traditions, as well as learning about the faiths and cultures of the people around them. The children have enjoyed listening to one another, asking questions and discovering more about the different beliefs and traditions within our Class 3 community.
