  • Class 4 - Mrs S Hooper

Hello and welcome to our class page!

Please keep an eye on the page for class information updates and to see the fun that we are having together! Don't forget that we also have our school Facebook page along with our Google Classroom page. You are very welcome to catch us after the school day to ask any questions or share any important information.

Following the transition from Reception, children experience a range of learning opportunities and study the full National curriculum. Our day will include a Sounds-Write phonic session, a Maths lesson and an English lesson. These will gradually be more formal across the Autumn Term. In the afternoons, we will cover our topic work through small guided groups and continuous provision.

The class will complete a Phonics Screening in June 2027. This is a government standardised assessment completed individually with the class teacher. We will be working very hard to decode real and 'alien' pseudo words in preparation.

    We are passionate about reading!

Developing reading is a key priority in Year 1. This essential skill is developed through phonics and discussion about the text. Reading at home regularly is strongly encouraged and makes a significant difference to children's progress. Ending the day with a bed-time story is a great opportunity for parents and carers to enrich their children's vocabulary and share a joyful experience together.

Children are required to bring their reading books to school daily. This will give more opportunities to read and change their books.

    • Please remember to check that you have the correct uniform - navy jumper or cardigan, white polo t-shirt, navy skirt/pinafore/checked dress, navy trousers/shorts, plain black shoes.
    • All children need to bring a Hadrian Primary, named water bottle every day.
