Setting description unit.
Our English units follow a set structure- We begin with benchmark tasks, we identify the features of the genre, compare several texts, complete reading comprehension, vocabulary and SPAG focused tasks, we do class shared writes to help generate ideas before completing an independent 'hot write' where the children apply all of the knowledge and skills they have learnt over the unit. We finish by editing, redrafting and finally performing our work.
Class 6 had a lovely time this morning over at nursery sharing some of our work with the children. Class 6 tried hard reading their setting descriptions with expression and emphasis to keep their audience interested. The nursery children showed great listening skills and enjoyed having the older children read to them
We love our weekly reading buddies.
On Fridays, we write in our special pink books. We put on some calming music so that we can focus, we use post-its and spelling bookmarks to help us with our spellings, we discuss our ideas in groups, we create word banks together and think of sentence starters we may need. We are creative writers!
Year 3 and year 6 were both studying the same unit in English- Letters. We took this opportunity to work with our year 6 buddies to share our letters of complaint. Year 6 listened and gave some advice and positive comments. In turn, year 6 shared some of their letters with us.
